Recently I went on the Greene King tour in Bury St Edmunds and I wanted to share a key business learning that came out of it (education + free beer at the end – a great combo!)
Established in 1799, Greene King are still going strong and most importantly still based in the town where it began all those years ago.
The tour was delivered by Mark Logan who spoke of their history with feeling and respect, recognising that their history is a key component of their success today.
IPA as a type of beer is now produced by 100s of other brewers around the world, but it was interesting to hear that the originators of IPA (Greene King), produce an IPA that tastes like no other and still use traditional brewing techniques.
In a market that is highly competitive and with what appears to be similar tasting beer, Greene King are able to produce something unique.
This got me thinking, if you operate in a market that is highly competitive, where all products appear to be the same, you can like Greene King, stand out from your competitors and create something different, something that others can’t copy.
What makes your product / service different to your competitors?
PS Highly recommend the tour if you are ever in Bury St Edmunds! Thanks Greene King George Johnston
